Sri Lanka’s Roofing Sector Upgrades: High-Durability PPGI Coils Solve Long-Term Corrosion Issues in Monsoon Climate

Sri Lanka’s Roofing Sector Upgrades: High-Durability PPGI Coils Solve Long-Term Corrosion Issues in Monsoon Climate

2025-07-07

Sri Lanka’s tropical monsoon climate brings continuous humidity, heavy rainfall, and high salt levels—especially in coastal regions such as Colombo and Galle. Local roofing sheet manufacturers have long struggled with premature fading, peeling, chalking, and rusting of low-grade color-coated sheets. These failures often appear within only 18–24 months, leading to high maintenance costs and customer complaints.

A medium-sized roofing sheet manufacturer operating two roll-forming lines contacted us to improve their product durability. They required a coating system strong enough to withstand Sri Lanka’s harsh outdoor conditions while maintaining color stability.

We supplied 3×40HQ containers of Pre-Painted Galvanized Steel Coil (0.15–0.47 mm, width 914 mm) in the country’s top three roofing colors: ocean blue, brick red, and deep grey. The coils use an enhanced UV-resistant polyester coating and a reinforced backcoat, significantly improving anti-corrosion performance in humid and salt-laden environments.

During production, the customer reported excellent flatness, consistent coating adhesion, and smooth roll-forming without powder drop or cracking. Even after outdoor exposure during peak monsoon months, the gloss and color remained stable. Installation teams also noted that the surface resisted scratching during cutting and fastening.

According to the customer, these PPGI coils reduced roof panel defect rates and cut customer complaints by nearly 40%, helping them gain more repeat orders.
